The Apocalypse Meow Fund was created in 2008 when local Musician
Abigail Henderson was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her friends and community
rallied around her and raised money to help get her over some daunting financial
hurdles. Apocalypse Meow is now an annual Benefit held by the nonprofit organization
Midwest Music Foundation to help raise funds for the Apocalypse Meow Musicians Health Care Fund.
Affordable health care for working musicians is the ultimate goal. Until then, the Midwest Music Foundation hopes to create access points to affordable health care options for those working in the Kansas City area musical arts community. In collaboration with local health care providers, we hope to offer a series of clinic days, low cost annual check-ups, and mammograms at a reduced rate. The Apocalypse Meow Musicians Health Care Fund is designed to assist members of the Kansas City area music community with emergency medical situations. Applications will be available online in 2010. |
